In honor of Baby Safety Month, we are sharing our tips on creating a safe space for your baby. Once you have run through top crib safety tips next comes the rest of the nursery.
Here's our step-by-step guide on creating a safe nursery in even the smallest of spaces!
1. anchor all furniture
Make sure to anchor all nursery furniture including dressers and bookshelves to the walls with braces. In particular any furniture that has drawers or shelves as your baby can climb it or tip it over on themselves. Our bloom dressers include an anchor kit making safe installation easy.
2. choose safe lighting
Avoid floor lamps, which can be easily pulled over. You should also avoid placing table lamps and other heavy decorative items on tablecloths. One good tug is all it takes to pull everything down. Keep all lighting including night lights away from drapes or bedding where they could start a fire. Buy only cool night lights that do not get hot.
3. choose a safe glider
A glider can be a great part of your nursery but it's important to pick a safe one. Rockers and some gliders can cause injury. To protect little toes and fingers, choose a glider, preferably one with a stop-lock mechanism that prevents the chair from gliding when not in use, and be sure that all gears are encased and out of reach.
